1. EC value is used to measure the concentration of soluble salts in soil solutions, as well as in liquid fertilizers or planting media.
2. The degree of soil salinization can generally be divided into the following levels:
1.0-2.0 Mild Salinized Soil
2.0-4.0 moderately saline soil
4.0-6.0 Strength Salinized Soil
>6.0 Salt Soil
3. The EC value of soil can only indicate the total concentration of soluble salts in the soil, and cannot reflect which specific ion it is. Common components include sodium ions, magnesium ions, calcium ions, chloride ions, sulfate ions, carbonate ions, and various ion nutrients in fertilizers. Excessive soluble salt content (EC value) may lead to reverse osmosis, displacing water from the roots and causing root tips to turn brown or dry.
The fluctuation of soil moisture can further worsen the problem of high soluble salt content, causing severe damage to plant roots, which cannot absorb water and nutrients, leading to symptoms such as wilting, yellowing, tissue necrosis, or plant dwarfism. An excessively high EC value can also increase the likelihood of root rot caused by cotton rot bacteria.
